This learning event is right for you if you are new to teaching a VCE Second Language at the Unit 1 & 2 level or teaching the new study design for the first time.


This half-day program will focus on the skills required to teach Unit 1 & 2 of a VCE Second Language course effectively. You will gain a better understanding of the course requirements and learn strategies that enable you to create engaging learning sequences and activities, as well as appropriate assessment tasks.

This workshop will include:

•            exploring the VCE Second Language Study Design

•            suggested structure of themes and subtopics

•            Outcome suggestions and advice

•            Time to collaborate with teachers who teach the same language(s)

•            tips to prepare students

This learning event supports creating best practice toward meeting the following VRQA standard(s):

 Presenter information

Nathalie Marchand   

Nathalie Marchand has been actively involved in language education at primary and secondary levels for over 20 years. With various Language and educational degrees, she started her teaching career in England where she taught French, Spanish and German in comprehensive schools, and has since taught GCSE and A level French in the UK, and the MYP, PYP, IB and VCE French courses in two independent Victorian schools since 2007. She is currently a teacher of French and VCE Mentor at Haileybury. Her passion for French has also led Nathalie to obtain her NAATI Professional Translator certification and runs her own freelance translation company. Nathalie has extensive experience in developing engaging teaching strategies and designing curriculum through her roles as head of department for French, year level coordinator, examiner for both the VCE and IB examinations, as well as author and content consultant on teaching and learning material for the Quoi de Neuf? Series.
