This learning event is right for you if you are interested in exploring the most effective ways to motivate boys to succeed academically.

For decades schools have grappled with the most significant barriers to male academic success: a lack of motivation to succeed, poor attitudes to learning and a reluctance to study for assessments and exams. In this webinar, author, researcher and educator, Mark Roberts, will explore the research picture around teacher expectations, engagement strategies, motivation and relationships, providing practical suggestions to help busy classroom teachers tackle ‘The Boy Question’.

‘Mark Roberts provides compelling insights into why many boys are not achieving what they might, unpicks the research and provides really helpful suggestions for cracking some of the issues… colleagues will find the research invaluable, particularly as it is translated into workable suggestions for the classroom.’ Mary Myatt, Education Thinker and Writer

This learning event supports creating best practice toward meeting the following VRQA standard(s):

  • Care, Safety and Welfare of Students – Student behaviour management (discipline)
  • The minimum standards for schools offering a senior secondary course – Student welfare

Key takeaways

  • awareness of the importance of teachers expectations of male academic potential
  • strategies to rethink boys’ engagement
  • appreciation of the most effective ways to motivate boys in the classroom
  • greater understanding about how to tackle disruptive behaviour
