Description

You know that learning is at the heart of our work, and yet amid the ongoing challenges of the pandemic and multiple distractions of everyday leadership, how can you actually improve learning?

In this session, we will focus on diving into the instructional core, which is essential for any leadership of learning with tasks as a key driver. We will investigate why task matters and then practise the how by analysing tasks for both children and adults to increase focus on what is most important.

You will leave this session with a sharper focus on tasks and why they matter at every level of schools and school systems as well as some key questions and skills for engaging colleagues in using tasks to drive and impact learning. Liz will also share some of her evolving thinking about the instructional core. Hint: it involves fractals!

Note: If you have attended the previous sessions with Liz related to the instructional core and task, this session will include some of that material, as well as a new variety of tasks to analyse, deeper application to adult tasks, and a more in-depth exploration of Liz’s updated thinking about the instructional core.

Key takeaways

  • acquisition of skills, tools and habits that support powerful learning
  • deeper understanding of the importance of instructional core analysis
  • greater understanding of the role of tasks to increase focus on what is most important
  • sharpened ability and strategies to analyse tasks and predict learning based on tasks at multiple levels of a school (classrooms, teacher meetings, etc.)
