LILAed is a community of school Principals and academic researchers, facilitated by Marga Biller from Project Zero at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

It is open to school Principals from all over Australia who are looking to make significant impact, not only in their own schools, but in the field of education.

As a collaborative learning lab, the program is designed to:

• foster a community in which members learn with and from one another
• connect school Principals with academics who will share their research and insights to generate new ways of thinking and doing in education
• encourage participants to take on experimental initiatives based on the ideas shared by academics.

Delivery mode

Hybrid learning, with synchronous and asynchronous modalities. Gatherings will be facilitated, if restrictions allow, to include in-person learning at the Park Hyatt.

Audience

LILAed is open to school Principals from all over Australia. It is limited to 20–25 participants and designed to be small enough to connect deeply with other members as well as researchers.

Theme: Change Pressures – Creating Adaptive Capacity in Schools 

In 2020/21, LILAed explored the theme of ‘Shaping Learning Ecologies for a Human-AI world’. After decades of innovation, often dramatically re-structuring entire sectors, schools are now confronted with important questions regarding their role in an emerging and complex future. 

During 2021 and 2022, LILAed will confront and respond to these changes. We will focus on the role of school leaders in creating adaptive capacity within their own school system and consider how working collaboratively within the educational sector and beyond might create a more robust ecology that serves the needs of students.

We will identify the pressures that are driving the strategic agendas for schools as they adapt to change pressures and focus on how individuals navigate, and leaders improve the adaptive capacity of their school.

Marga Biller
Senior Project Director, Learning Innovations Laboratory – Harvard Graduate School of Education

As Senior Project Director at the Learning Innovations Laboratory at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Marga has supported organisations to integrate research in human and organisational development into their learning strategies and talent development processes. In her consulting practice, Marga focuses on helping organisations develop learning strategies that help them align their development initiatives with their business challenges.

Professor George Siemens, Ph. D.
Professor, Psychology - University of Texas at Arlington;
Co-Director, Centre of Change and Complexity in Learning – University of South Australia

George researches networks, analytics, and human and artificial cognition in education. He has delivered keynote addresses in more than 35 countries on the influence of technology and media on education, organisations and society. He has received numerous awards, including honorary doctorates from Universidad de San Martín de Porres and Fraser Valley University for his pioneering work in learning, technology and networks. He holds an honorary professorship with University of Edinburgh. Professor Siemens is a founding President of the Society for Learning Analytics Research. In 2008, he pioneered massive open online courses (sometimes referred to as MOOCs).
