Description

All educators seek ways to add depth and meaning to learning, and strategies that will guide students to become actively engaged in the complex issues facing our communities. Globally-renowned and pioneering Service Learning expert Cathryn Berger Kaye will facilitate this interactive two-hour workshop by exploring how this can best be accomplished by extending academic connections beyond the confines of the classroom through a reliable and effective inquiry process: service learning. The process of service learning also encourages the 3-dimensional alignment of learning areas, general capabilities and cross-curriculum priorities encouraged by the Australian Curriculum Version 9.0, reinvigorating classroom leading and engagement.

A regular conference keynote speaker on service learning as well as 21st-century competencies, student agency, social and emotional realms, climate and culture, Cathryn’s dynamic service-learning model has been incorporated by many schools keen to develop whole-school approaches to service-learning. She has also been a key influence of multiple International Baccalaureate programs, including the CAS core of the IB Diploma and service-learning outcomes in the Middle Years Programme (MYP). Cathryn has supported enhancements in the Primary Years Programme PYP.

  • encourage the 3 dimensional alignment of learning areas, general capabilities and cross-curriculum priorities encouraged by the Australian Curriculum, Version 9.0
