This learning event is right for you if you are a Principal, Deputy Principal, Head of School or Risk and Compliance Manager who is responsible for handling personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
Most Victorian Independent Schools are required to act in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) when handling personal information about students, parents and staff members. This Learning Event aims to introduce you to the relevant privacy legislation and provide you with practical advice and guidance on good privacy management practices within your school.
This learning event supports creating best practice toward meeting the following VRQA standard(s):
- Enrolment – Enrolment policy
- Care, Safety and Welfare of Students – Safe environment
- Care, Safety and Welfare of Students – Child safety
- Greater understanding of your privacy obligations
- Information about collecting, using and disclosing personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth)
- Strategies for implementing good privacy management practices
Sarah Dunn is School Services Advisor at Independent Schools Victoria. Sarah is an experienced lawyer in the education sector. She provides strategic and practical advice to Member Schools in relation to a range of legal, regulatory, risk and compliance issues.
Peter Roberts is currently Independent Schools Victoria’s Head of School Services, and the Company Secretary of the Victorian Independent Schools Block Grant Authority. In his roles, Peter provides advice and support to Independent schools, particularly in the areas of compliance and accountability, capital projects and school operations. He has played a leading role in implementing various Australian and Victorian Government education programs focused on school performance and infrastructure improvement. Prior to joining ISV, he spent twenty years working in schools, most recently as an Assistant Principal at a large metropolitan school.
